Returning to maiden name, any issues?

Hi, i want to change back to my maiden name following my divorce. I'm just wondering if there will be any issues with my DS8 and i having different surnames. A friend was stopped at a border (UK to Canada) and had to produce a letter from the kids father to prove the child was hers!! Is this really a thing??! Really grateful for any advice/experiences..

Regardless of surnames you are supposed to have permission from everyone with parental responsibility if you take a child abroad by yourself

Canada is very strict about it. I have been asked nearly every time I've re-entered the UK with ds (we have always had different surnames as I didn't change mine when I got married). I am usually asked for the birth certificate rather than the permission letter, although I carry both.

Thank you for the advice. I had no idea! We've both taken DS abroad, separately of course, several times over the last 4 years and it's never been mentioned once. Thanks again, I'll get this sorted.
