Any tips?

Ex and I are moving into seperate homes very soon. I really need to build my own nest egg!

I’ve found a place with reasonable rent for at least 6 months. I need to use this time to save but am terrible. Any tips?

Try not to use cards to pay for things. Give yourself cash weekly and only spend that. Also writing down what you spend daily can make you realise pretty quickly where you could cut back. I hope this helps. Good luck.

Sell anything you dont need. If your too lazy for e-bay you can get rid of a fair bit of stuff at cash converters. Its money in your pocket. Packed lunch at work. Only buy clothing that you need. For a treat have something small, lipstick, magazine, coffee with friend etc rather than new bag, night out etc.

Have all of your bills come out on the 1st of the month so you don't think you have more spare money than you do.

Set up a standing order (also at the start of the month) to savings and try not to transfer it back.

If like me you get paid on the last Friday of the month remember to budget your fun money accordingly. The last week of a 5 week month can be brutal!

If you find yourself overspending note down each purchase for a while. It really makes you think about whether you need what you're buying.
