Why does he keep lying to DD about his contact?

Soon to be EXH is settled down with a new partner, bought a house, seems happy. I'm glad for him as he had a turbulent childhood which ultimately caused the end of our marriage.
We have a ten year old DD. Very smart, very aware. Absolutely fine with us being apart - I left and took her with me when she was 4.
He regularly says he's tried to FaceTime when he blatantly has not. I asked him today contact her yesterday as we hadn't heard from him all weekend and she was a bit upset by it.
Usual response. "She doesn't answer when I call."
DD has no missed FaceTime calls - then, conveniently, when he's confronted, FaceTime bursts into life and starts working. Funny eh?
I could strangle him. Does he think we're both stupid?

Yes he does.

Massive solidarity babycham, I am currently seething over the exact same thing. He says i don't reply to text messages that he had sent - but I have not received any. He has lied about the red book of communication too, says that I have not sent it. I check it immediately upon return so I know that it has gone with the children.

Aargh! Whatever the motive they think we are stupid enough to believe the lies. - Has your DD twigged the muppetry?

She is. She was quite upset last night.
Should I call him out? Don't want an argument.

I would call him out. I'd say "neither me nor dd are stupid. She has no missed FaceTime calls. Stop this lying before you seriously alienate dd".

babycham75 · 28/05/2018 13:12

If he says it again, I'll confront him.
He's 42 FFS

Why not nip this by making dd facetime him instead?

Followtheyellowsicktoad · 28/05/2018 13:24

Haven't a clue I'm afraid. With my ex he will lie about lying, if I challenge that lie (and those following) it turns into a brain spin no win argument. However I feel that he then gets away with it and so will continue which makes me inclined to pull him up. Already in the confusion.

I'm going to e-mail the twit and reasonably politely suggest he checks my number as i have received no texts from him since

Followtheyellowsicktoad · 28/05/2018 13:29

Dammit - pressed send..
No texts from him in over a month.

The way I see it is there is no right way of handling this, but someone once said that if there is no right way there's probably no wrong way either.
