I served my husband with divorce papers in February and has not responded, I have only just found this out when i asked my solicitor what was happening, my solicitor has said that I should talk to my husband about signing the papers which I thought that is what I pay my solicitor to do ( he took two months to write a letter ) where do I go from here, I have already paid my solicitor a thousand pounds and he doesnt seem to be doing anything, how can I make my husband respond

You can't make your husband respond and neither can your solicitor. You now need to instruct your solicitor to proceed anyway. Not responding is very common but I ultimately it doesn't stop the proceedings just slows them down.

Is there any big rush for the divorce because it doesn't sound as though your husband is going to be cooperative

Your solicitor needs to have him served personally. What ground are you going under?

we have been seperated for 4 years, irreconcilable differences
I just think that my solicitor isn't very good

Which country are you in? Irreconcilable differences is not a thing in English law.

Your choices in England /Wales are

Adultery
Unreasonable behaviour
2 years separation and consent
5 years separation
2 years desertion.
