It has now been 2 months since my dd has seen her dad. I stopped contact due to him drinking while in charge of her. He has a long history of alcohol abuse and is currently on a double suspended sentence for alcohol fueled crimes. He also has BPD. He is issuing proceedings against me for access, denying he has an issue with alcohol. I'm told by my solicitor that Cafcass will do safeguarding checks but have heard nothing as yet. How long will it take and will they look at his record with alcohol which has been documented through various agencies?

Can anyone please explain to me why it is so darned impossible to get in touch with anyone from Cafcass? I am given to understand that once a court order has been imposed, they have no further involvement with the results of their recommendations at all. Since their input can have long-lasting repercussions on any children who are jointly shared by both parents in a custody matter, I personally find this quite alarming. Any thoughts, anyone?

From memory it’s tied to your scheduled court date. I think Cafcass first got in touch about 2 weeks before court (I was beginning to stress that there wouldn’t be time). Once they did get in touch it was quick and efficient. I suspect case loads are high and it’s first come first served in relation to hearing dates. Good luck
