I'm not sure what to do with this but thought I would ask for some advice!

My friend lives in Europe and her husband of 10 years left her, came back to the UK and shacked up with a new woman in 2014. He sent her two emails saying he was waiting for my friend to start divorce proceedings with his address details. She replied to one saying that they had agreed he would start divorce proceedings. She heard nothing since.

Anyway transpires he has got married to the new woman. Pictures all over facebook and she has changed her name to his name.

What can I (my friend) do about this?! Any advice will be much appreciated!!!

Report it to the police. Then get on and file to be rid of the road.

I thought it would be complicated! Both from UK but my friend lives in a European country (i feel I should say toooo much incase anyone he knows reads this). Her parents have UK address and ex knows this as lived there himself for a time. He knows any post for my friend can be sent there. He also knows her address abroad.

I have said it should be reported to the police but I want to get as much advice and do it the right way so he gets caught properly.

It might depend on which country they actually got married in. If it was a European country then the original marriage would be valid in the UK and therefore the second marriage would be invalid. Report him. Not sure who to. Possibly police or Registrar of Births marriages and deaths. Or you could seek advice from them. They must know the rules surely.

Eslteacher06 · 18/08/2017 21:39

Yeah i know it needs reporting...but not sure where to start! My friend and husband were married in the UK and he got married again in the UK.

Then report to uk police. Jurisdiction will be where the second marriage took place if your friend knows where that was. I don't agree his nationality has any relevance.

The new marriage was in the UK. The only international dimension is that my friend lives in Europe now. Could he claim he couldn't find her and did it without her? This would be lying as he knows a UK address and her European address.

My friend contacted the council. He showed divorce papers. My friend didnt sign them. What the hell?!

Did he forge her signature?

Farahilda · 24/08/2017 18:26

Se should report it to the police and let them investigate if there has been a crime.

If you cannot locate your STBX, then you can still divorce under English law but only after 5 years separation (when consent is no longer required). If he left her in 2014, that really doesn't add up. Is he is claiming they separated in 2012?

Eslteacher06 · 26/08/2017 04:03

He must have forged her signature. I did wonder if he made out he left earlier. It's just all so bizarre! Are there any implications for my friend?!
