I have just found out my STBEXH left my 12 year old on HIS OWN ALL DAY whilst he spent the day 20 miles away with a girlfriend. There is no landline, no mobile phone signal and intermittent broadband signal.
What if something had happened?
I'm terrified about him being left alone again when he stays there over a weekend. What can I do?
Is it illegal what he has done?

Well it seems very stupid to leave him alone with no phone for that long. My 12 year old stays alone with a phone for about 4 hours now and then....could you give your son a phone to use whilst at his Dads? Most 12 year olds have a cheap pay as you go nowadays.

And to be honest, I did used to spend all day alone at that age in the holidays as my parents both worked. It's not THAT terrible OP.

There's no specific law.

A neurotypical 12 year old is obviously fine alone but the lack of a phone would bother me. In the absence of a mobile signal, your ex should install a landline.

It's unfortunate that your ex didn't spend the weekend with his son. Unless the girlfriend was ill or something, he should have prioritised his son on the access weekend. However, that's a different topic.
