How long did your divorce take?

I am finally submitting the papers. We're doing it ourselves and divorcing on grounds of unreasonable behaviour. DH knows what to expect in the reasons (if there was a 'we just don't want to be married anymore' option we'd be doing that) and won't contest it. No financial stuff to sort out.

Just want to know what to expect!

Mine was similarly straight forward, we did the finances ourselves, no DC, no lawyers and I was the petitioner. Took about 3 months. The guidance on timings on the .gov site were pretty spot on so go on that as long as you and your ex both send everything back promptly.

It might depend slightly on where you live, some courts are very busy. But it shouldn't take long.

I petitioned in the June and absolute was through by end November. We did our own finances too via on line consent order which just took a few months. You do have to do finances as well even if just to make a clean break.

I'm kidding, you've got to keep your sense of humour through tough times. I hope you are managing OK. It's grim.

6 weeks start to finish. He's a closer. Similar grounds and situation. One nice thing my xh did was ring me on the evening when I got the papers - even if you know what's in the grounds, reading it is upsetting.

I used Divorce online, they are very good, submitted November 2015 absolute March, 2016.

Does anybody have any info / experience of whether or not it is worth paying for the divorce online managed service - their website claims to shave quite a bit of time off the process. I have paid for their cheaper checking service - and they're not even using the most up to date forms!! I'm ready to go, really want it done by Christmas, ex won't contest it but won't rush to return any paperwork either. Not sure if the extra service is worth the money..... Thanks for any advice.

What service do they offer? They won't get preferential treatment from a judge in terms of speed to process. I did mine all myself.

The fastest I ever did was 3 1/2 months from issue to DA.

My parents took 13 months from petition to decree absolute.

They had to go to curt because they couldn't sort out finances.

My mum asked for maintenance since it was my dad who was the petitioner. He was ending a 'lifestyle' that she chose not to end. Or something like that.

It was terribly messy. My dad doesn't speak to me anymore. I put a roof over her head and as the decree absolute came at Christmas time, I asked my dad not to visit on Christmas Day. He had my brother to fall back on (I don't speak to him either - his choice - long story) whereas my mum had nobody else. My dad believes this was my decision. It wasn't. There were five adults to consider (DM, DH, MIL and our 2 BFF) and everyone said no, the atmosphere would be awful. I was in the midst of trying to arrange alternatives (mum was going to her friend's boxing day for a couple of nights )and I was literally about to tell him to come down Boxing Day for 2 nights when he messaged me to basically tell me to F* off! He cut ties with me, his son in law and his two small grandchildren at the 'click of a finger'.

Sad.

Divorce can be messy.

3 months to the day. Divorced on the grounds of 2 years separated, amicable. Also sorted childcare arrangements and financial arrangements (2 houses, 1 business and 2 pensions) in that time.

Used one solicitor.

Bangingmyhead I'm so sorry to read that. Divorce is indeed sad and messy in many cases, what a shame your dad can't see the bigger picture.

Thanks everyone for the advice. Rightly or wrongly I've paid for the upgraded service, life is so manic I think I'll benefit from the help this brings, even if it isn't any quicker.

Mine took 7 months from sending the petition in but that was using BSE which was slower than other centres x

I filed petition in April and decree nisi will be read this month. Tricky finances so not sure how long till absolut...this is also BSE which is nice people but slow compared to other Units

About 4 months from petition to DA. We had a financial agreement that stated that I could keep the house if I took on all the debts (equity = debt outstanding). It was 2 years before the bank let me remortgage to pay off all the debts and transfer the title so that was still outstanding long after the marriage divorce came through.
