That really Are the costs split 50/50 or does the one who wants the divorce have to pay it all ?

I'm going to be starting this process. He was violent and he has left me so I'm getting rid. Seems a bit unfair if I have to pay if all

It's 410 to file for your divorce if you don't use a solicitor. Finances for a divorce are separate. You can ask for him to pay it or split costs

Presumably his solicitor will give him the same advice. I fully expect him to refuse to pay anything

Finances are entirely separate, when you file you have to pay the costs (as the petitioner) of the £410 court filing fee, but you can request the respondent pays some/all of the costs back to you in the petition. Doesnt mean he has to agree though.
The finances are then done separately.
My DP and his ex did it all without solicitors, he paid and just included a clean break so they had no claim on future earnings, Was very simple. Im not entirely sure how it works if you use a solicitor though and at what point you can reclaim costs etc.

WTF?? Shock

Anyway. It's whoever files for divorce. I suppose it comes down to who wants it more. Not right really is it?
