Providing receipts for maintenance

Does anyone's ex request receipts to prove what you are spending the maintenance on? Can they? It seems utterly ridiculous. Hmm

Once the amount of maintenance has been determined the payer has no business demanding to know what the recipient has spent the money on. Each party is autonomous and finances are separated as much as possible. Child maintenance is a contribution to all the costs of raising a child a spouse maintenance is a contribution towards the recipient's living expenses and the recipient isn't required to justify their spending.

Having said that if the amount of maintenance hasn't yet been determined it can be useful to go through receipts and figures to negotiate an agreement between yourselves rather than use the statutory Child Maintenance Service or have the courts impose an amount for spouse maintenance.

My XH doesn't ask. And if he did I wouldn't tell.

No they cant ask. There are statutory minimums the payer has to provide

Mine has demanded access to my online banking on a fairly consistent basis. I said no, and kept note of his demands.
