How long does the divorce process take?

Been separated only 10 weeks but am really wanting to be rid of my despicable exh! I'll be citing adultery so luckily can get started straightaway. But how long does it all take from start to finish?

A lot depends on how helpful or awkward he is going to be. My ExH delayed every step of the way through just general apathy.

As lonecat says, it depends on the level of cooperation. On average it takes 6 months. My quickest ever was 3 months and a day.

If you have any finances to untangle that may take longer unless you can both agree.

18 months and still no where near the end.........

I'm citing adultery too which my husband has agreed not to deny. My solicitor said 3-4 months - it's a joke how long it takes considering how much it costs!

My ex didn't dispute any of the examples of unreasonable behaviour that I cited and it still took 19 months thanks to financial issues. My solicitor led me to belive it would be far quicker though so I found it incredibly frustrating.

Passively obstructive and emotionally manipulative xdh - 6 years.

Very collaborative divorce between myself and EXH, all finances agreed from the off etc. still took 10 months due to delays in processing at court and solicitor to and fro.

Straight forward 5 year desperation, no finances or kids and it took 6 months to get rid.

I only waited 5 years so that it would go ahead without him doing anything obstructive for his amusement.

That should be separation - there was a fair bit of desperation though!

Oh, and I did it all myself with the court so minimised the cost but I'm not sure it would be so simple with finances etc involved.

I'm 15 months in and still nowhere near the end.

Can I ask the lawyers - what makes it go on for years?! I have an FDR scheduled for May, am hoping we might be able to settle beforehand, but surely even if we don't and can't resolve it afterwards it'll all be sorted out at a final hearing 3-4 months later (god forbid)?

I heard a story the other day about a divorce that took 15 years to finalise, what makes it go on for so long?!!!
