What is the Separation Process?

My husband and I have decided to separate, so basically, what do I need to do next?

It has been agreed that it would be best if we sell the house and then find two new properties closeby so that we can both be in the life of our DC.

Do I need to contact a Solicitor? If so, what questions should I be asking them?

If I did move out before the property was sold and rented somewhere would I be entitled to any help from the government with regard to rent?

Should I be making my husband do the moving out? Or do we stay together until the house is sold?

I work part-time and my husband is self-employed.

I have so many questions, but really don't know where to start!!!!

Any help and advise on this subject would be most welcome.

No idea but I'm bumping this because we've decided to seperate this week too and I also have no idea.
I want to know at what point can I start claiming single council tax and working tax credits etc. I don't want to wait until he's left to apply because then I'm guessing I've got weeks of waiting for it to take effect but also don't know if I can apply now whilst I'm waiting for him to move out.

Hi, I've been through it. Yes, you need to get good advice. I can recommend a great 'Mckenzie Friend' if I'm allowed to through the site. They are not legally trained solicitors but they can help you through the process side of things and give advice, at a much cheaper rate than a solicitor.
