What are the initial steps for filing divorce?

As one of my friends wants to file a divorce, Can anyone please suggest what are the initial steps for filing divorce?

That links sets out all the steps. Obviously, though, if there are children, assets etc, then your friend needs to get a solicitor.

If it's amicable and there are no tricky assets such as pensions involved, then the first step is to phone up your local family court and get them to send an information pack and forms out.
