DIY divorce

Hi,
has anyone has any experience of online 'DIY' divorce? It's less than half the price of going to a solicitor and my only option really. My ExH (to be) and I split 3 years ago. He was having an affair but I'm not going to site that in proceedings. Just want it over and done with as we are amicable for our DS. Neither of us have money to give or claim from the other so is it as simple as it seems?

You can download the forms yourself from the gov.uk site and fill them in and take them to the courts. That's what I'm doing. It cost £340 in court fees.

Does that mean you/your ex have to attend court Sparkly?

I did what sparkly did too, was pretty straight forward.

No butterfly. Just that you don't have to go through any firm. You can start proceedings yourself. You fill in a form from the court and they process it directly.

I think it's form D8 . You can ask for it at court or download it and return it to court.

If you are on a low income you might not have to pay any fees at all if you go direct

Google how to file for divorce direct.gov it gives a breakdown of what to do.

I don't even know where my nearest court is - so clueless but I'll find out. Had no idea you could truly DIY without a firm/solicitor. Rang a solicitor last year but there's no way I could afford £1000 excluding court fees even if we split the costs! Will still have to pay as income not classed as low but the cheaper the better. Sounds a bit cold but need to bite the bullet after the time that's passed. Thanks again. Will have a look for forms online.

If your income is below a certain level you don't have to pay. They don't take a lot of benefits or tax credits (if you get disability elements) into account. I filled in the form last week and just got to take it to the court. Your ex will have to sign an statement of arrangements for children if you have any. That's it.
