Need some help for a friend

Friend has separated from her husband of 15 years - 2 children under 10.
Its relatively amicable at the moment however they are now putting house on the market and its a definate split.

She does not know anything about his income/the mortgage/loans/ etc etc he is a financial advisor for the wealthy so likely to have some complicated assets but she doesnt know what they are.

Whilst she is sure he will do the right thing - I think forwarned is forarmed and she needs to know more info about their financial situation.

How should she proceed - can she get some free legal advice.

he's been very controlling in the past ( I hesitate to use this word as I don't think its been 'abusive' ) and therefore she has very much been positioned in the relationship as being looked after and therefore had no involvement with ' manly' things like money!

Well, before a court will sign an order regarding a financial settlement both parties will be expected to seek legal advice & fill out their financial details. Most solicitors offer a free half hour of legal advice which should give her some idea of what she should expect. Can she afford the house on her own, does she want to sell it as she may not have to, at least not immediately.

definately tell her to get legal advice... when I seperated from my ex he kept telling me it was amicable, I told my solicitor it was amicable... but him and his solicitor I think were very clever. with their wording..
Tell her to see a solicitor who specialises in family law and ask what she is intitled to, she maybe able to stay in the house, does she work? has she looked into any benifites she could get...
