Separation or/then Divorce

We have a few questions
1 what is exactly the definition of a ?separation??
2 must we have separation before a Divorce?
3 must we physicaly separate to have a separation?
4 if we have a separation can I start dating again or must I wait for a proppar Divorce? (this one is important for me!)

In my case my ex(s) and I agreed on a date that we considered the marriage to be over and that was our separation date, although in each (of the two) cases the actual date of leaving or being left was some time later. As for dating, in the case of one of my exes she'd started dating several years before our separation!

There's no spousal support in Australia, but I know in the US it's considered bad form to describe yourself as "single" until you're divorced.
