Terribble Information

Has anyone else had terrible information, or lack of at all, and just left to get on with it? I was diagnosed with type 2 in 2019 and have been on metformin since then. It was only afew weeks ago that I was talking to a nurse and she told me not to take Metformin when feeling ill. I never knew this and told her that and she said it was surprising how many people said that to her.
I have been really trying to cut down my carbs lately as they're the enemy of diabetes right? Well a few months ago I was started on Dapaglifozin, never told anything about it. Just reading a thread in here about it and a poster has warned you aren't supposed to go low carb on it!
Does anyone else find a lack of information?

Did you not read the information leaflet that comes with every box of metformin? It tells you that in there

Might sound harsh but you need to take some responsibility for your condition, nurses can’t possibly tell you everything some of it you need to educate yourself.

it’s your diabetes, you are the only one that manages it, not any medical professionals. It’s up to you how much you want to learn about how best to manage it

Hi PotatoFan, thanks for your reply. I've been thinking about it and I suppose I never queried side effects as I trust that health care profesionals know what they are doing. They see more diabeteics than me so I presumed they'd tell me if something was important to know.
I did join a diabetes forum when first diagnosed but it seemed to be either other people being newly diagnosed and panicking, or what they've eaten that day.

I've had diabetes for 8 years. Never, not once has a HCP mentioned to stop taking metformin if I am unwell. I also never read the insert so today I learned something ;)

I think your issues are a result of your user name, type 2 is reversible.......

I was told sick day rules for metformin and other medications. I've since been put on insulin and I've also had the sick day rules for that explained to me.

Type 2 can be put into remission for some diabetics who have been fairly recently diagnosed. If only life were as simple as you seem to think it is.

As Gingerkittykat helpfully pointed out, reversing type 2 diabetes isn't straight forward. Lack of sleep and stress really impact on my blood sugar and I'm an insomniac and suffer from many anxiety disorders. I also have an eating disorder.

Oh, and how could I forget, the metabolic disease of insulin reistance!
