Newly type 2 feeling a bit overwhelmed

Just been diagnosed type 2 & started on metformin. Not really had any advice on what I need to do other than take meds & lose weight. Feeling a bit overwhelmed with it all. Got appointment with diabetic nurse in 4 weeks - what should I do to get started?

Have a look on the NHS page for this OP, it’s really quite good.

Standard advice is improve your diet, eat healthy so fruit, wholegrain foods, veg, pulses like chickpeas etc.

Increase your activity levels, aim for 2.5 hours a week to start with even if that’s just a brisk walk.

Stop drinking or really cut back on alcohol.

If you are struggling with your diet you can speak to your GP practice for a community referral.

Thankyou @Mrsttcno1 I’ve had a look there & it was useful.

I rarely drink (practically tee total) so got that one ticked off the list already.

Excercise I do some, but definitely could do more so that’s something to work on.

Dietwise - I eat a good variety of fruit & veg but am also partial to refined carb a & chocolate so I know that needs to change. Trying to make family meals that suit everyone (incl. teen with suspected arfid) is the most challenging part for me. I’ve always tended to put my needs last & cook what the rest of the family will eat but I need to start prioritising myself a bit or I’m not going to be here to see my kids grow up. My blood pressure is extremely high & I’m worrying myself stupid. 😢 Had my head in the sand for too long so now is the time for change.
