4 year old diabetes?

My 4 year old has started drinking a lot and finishing a full cup fairly quick and weeing a lot. Nursery said he went to the loo 15 times today! I took him to the GP and of course he couldn't do a wee sample so we have to drop it off on Monday.
GP said they would be looking at diabetes but as he is so energetic and looks well it is probably unlikely. If he gets unwell over the weekend to call 111.
Anyway I'm sent into a panic and I've ordered strips from Amazon so I can check myself tomorrow.

Anyone with experience, does it sound probable? He already has health issues we can't add another one!

If I'd had that call from a GP, I'd have asked them to do a finger prick blood sugar on the spot, to exclude diabetes. And if they couldn't do it, I would have accepted them to the children's ward to get one, as the possibility of diabetes in a 4 year old is not something to leave until after the weekend. In your position I'd be calling 111, or going to A&E. Better a wasted evening than crossing your fingers and waiting to see if he gets very poorly.

It may well not be diabetes at all, but it's not something to mess around with.

DD has type 1 diabetes. Picked up by a GP with a quick finger-prick after a urine test (I thought the weeing was possibly down to a UTI). We were sent immediately to the hospital... you can't muck around and just leave things over a weekend with diabetes! No idea what planet your GP is on. Go to the hospital.

Thanks for the replies.

Usually I have to keep reminding him to drink and have to almost force him to drink but looking at the NHS recommendation for how much a 4 year old should drink I don't think he's gone over that (1.1L - 1.3L). Trying to add up how much he just have drunk today. This morning 1 IKEA Kala cup, 1 x 335ml during nursery (9-3), 1 X Kala cup, 1.5 x Kala cup since home and bedtime. So thinking of it like that it's not excessive but more than he would normally drink? I'm wondering if the extra is just making him go wee more. Properly had three wees since he's been home from nursery, and wasn't a lot of wee. He doesn't get up in the night to wee ether.

I don't wish to worry you but my 17 year old was diagnosed last year whilst in Diabetic Keto acidosis which us a life threatening condition drinking loads can be a sign i would go to A&E and get them to do a finger prick test if it's diabetes they will diagnose immediately and treat straight away.

Thanks I actually bought a blood glucose test and arrived today. However today he barely drank anything and didn't pee much!

I checked his blood sugars myself, he is 5.7 so looks like normal range. Urine test was fine too.
