Semaglutide/ Rybelus Tablets.

I was prescribed semaglutide tablets and picked up the pills earlier today and will start them tomorrow.

Does anyone know if they are as effective as the injection?

I was prescribed them as they can no longer get hold of exenatide injections due to shortages.

It says that weight loss only happens in 1/100 patients taking them which is disappointing as I really need to lose weight, I had hoped to get the injections but they can't get hold of them because of the shortages.

The main reason I am taking them is to get my sugars down so I hope they are effective for that even if I don't lose any weight.

That’s not correct. What is the wording exactly?

Gingerkittykat · 11/03/2024 15:48

About the weight loss?

Reduced appetite may affect up to 1 in 10 people and weight loss may also affect up to 1 in 100 people taking Rybelsus.

That's from the leaflet the nurse gave me about it.

That is in the unwanted side effects listing statistics. Not everyone will want/need to lose weight or reduce appetite. It also lists delayed gastric emptying on there, but that’s part of how it’s effective. What’s a positive for some will be a negative for others.

This article has some more info about it in general (if only the abstract opens then click the pdf box below the references for the full review).

I hope it works for you on both fronts.

I’ve been moved onto it as the supply of Dulaglutide has become unreliable.
I’ve not lost weight but I’m not overweight ( I would like to lose a few pounds off my stomach).
Sugars ok but they were on dulaglutide.
If I wake in the night I take the Rybelsus then as I hate the wait time before morning coffee.
I’ve not had any negative side effects.

@HowDoWeDoThisPlease Thanks for the link. It seems it is approved for obesity in the USA. I put on a lot of weight over Covid and not been able to get back in control. I also have problems with binge eating at times so I am hoping for loss of appetite and weight loss.

@caramac04 I've taken my first tablet and now waiting for my first coffee, I wake up really thirsty so it was strange limiting myself to 100ml of water. I'm surprised you take it overnight, do you eat then too? I was told I must eat after half an hour.

I'm glad it has worked for you in terms of sugars. I was under fairly good control on Exenatide but I've not had it for a couple of months now and my sugars have gone up. My nurse said she has had really good results with sugars in the people she has seen taking it.

@Gingerkittykat Just wondering how you're getting on with Rybelsus?
I'm T2, and have my prescription, ready to start tomorrow...

I'm doing fine, still on 3 mg though even though I should be on 7.

I've not lost any more weight but my blood sugars have definitely come down a bit.

Some days the side effects can be pretty bad with feeling sick and being painfully full after meals but other days I feel fine.

Feel free to post on here to tell us how you are doing.
