I understand that there is a small metal part on the sensor that goes underneath your skin, which is how it detects your glucose. I'm wondering there is an infection risk from leaving it there for 2 weeks. To be honest that's what puts me off wanting to get one.

I'm T1 diabetic and have the Libre - it's my best mate.

The sensor is an incredibly thin filament that looks no thicker than a piece of thread. The Libre disk is sealed pretty firmly over and around it, so I can't think there's much of an infection risk, especially as the filament is so tiny. I always use an alcohol wipe on the area before applying a new sensor every fortnight.

My diabetes control is so much better with the Libre, having it screaming at you the moment you step out of line really does help me monitor things with a little more discipline!

I’ve used libre constantly for many years, and almost all T1s in the UK use them. I frequently use diabetes forums and Facebook groups and honestly I’ve never heard of anyone having an infection from the filament.
