Just diagnosed type 2 in December

My HbAc1 was 101. I had my first appointment with a diabetes Nurse on the 22nd of December and there was lots of information and various leaflets. I feel a bit overwhelmed at the moment to be honest.

The main thing is changing my diet and getting my weight down. I am 19st 6lbs with a bmi of 40 (or just over), so morbidly obese. I didn't overeat during the holidays and made an effort to avoid chocolate, cakes, pasta, etc. I haven't lost anything but didn't put any on either.

Currently on day 3 of calorie counting and sticking to 1500 calories a day to try and shift some weight. I definitely find the risk of complications motivating for changing the way I eat! I don't want to end up blind or have to have a foot amputated, it's scary.

Hopefully I can make the changes necessary to improve my health but I know I will find it hard.

Well done for getting the motivation to address this.

Low carb is definitely the way to go, you will be less hungry and your blood sugar will stabilise quicker.

Have a look at the low carb boot camp threads on here.

If you like a long, slightly technical read but the absolute authority on diabetes, read Dr Bernstein's diabetes solution www.amazon.co.uk/Dr-Bernsteins-Diabetes-Solution-Achieving/dp/0316182699?nodl=1&dplnkId=ab12e6eb-5a0b-4b94-bb3a-80a77fc80877

Also it is probably worth getting a Libre monitor, even if you have to pay, even just for 2 weeks as it will tell you exactly how your body reacts to foods eg I have a bigger and faster rise from a banana than a mars bar, despite fruit being a "good" carb. Everyone is different in this regard

And please post on here or ask questions- good luck
