Help I'm ruining my life

Im type 2 and have been for about 7 years.

I lost weight and reverse it, put it back on again and so it repeats:

This time last year I was 2 stone lighter and I fell off again. October last year I got a blurry eye which turned out to be retinopathy, it's never going to unblur.

Still I can't stop on the sugar. This is life and death. I could lose sight the same in the other eye and be banned from driving.

I need help to quit sugar. I can't afford to sign up to any plan or spend much money. GP just throws drugs at me and that's it.

Any advice be gratefully received. This is mental health :-(

Join diabetes UK. There's loads of info help and support on there as well as diet plans.
What is it you're wanting from your GP?
Diet wise carbs = sugar so you need to look at low carbing but you've done it before you can do it agin Smile
Other option is Michael Moseley's 800 kcal plan. Again loads of info on line. There are FB groups, threads on here...... buy the book second hand.
The info is there, first step... stop buying it and you can't eat it.

Can the GP or diabetic nurse refer you to your local self management course?
https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/type-2-diabetes/finding-help-and-support/

Would a local support group help?
https://www.diabetes.org.uk/how_we_help/local_support_groups

You can self refer for MH support in many areas
https://www.nhs.uk/service-search/mental-health/find-an-nhs-talking-therapies-service
If you work, does your employer offer any help?

I will check these out thanks.

Last time I tried all groups were in person in the middle of the day which isn't great when you work full time but I guess I need to find the time.

What diabetic medication are you taking?

Hi @ownworstnme

How are you getting on?
I'm in a very similar situation.
I basically ignored my diabetes for years and now have retinopathy.
I am terrified of going blind but it's still not stopping me with the sugar.
I have tried Ozempic (prescribed by GP) but got very bad side effects.

It's weird. I feel as if I'm self harming. I've stopped being in touch with the diabetes nurse in the last 6 months because I feel as if there's no point and she's despairing of me.
