Diabetes bloods

Hi I'm not quite sure this is in the right place as I'm not diagnosed as of yet but I am having a blood test to check. My doctor didn't really give much information to be honest so just wanted to ask from people that know. How long do I need to fast for? My doctor sent me a form to book it myself and he said normally you fast from 8pm but if my appointment is not until 4pm is that the right amount of hours I need to fast? And what were your symptoms before diagnosis. The symptoms I'm having at the moment are constant shaky hands, feel sick most of the time dizzy when standing and are times where I feel like I'm going to pass out and have to sit wherever I am until it passes. Once it passes I then crave sugar and can easily get through packets of sweets until I feel better again other than the shaky hands. I do go very pale and sometimes feel like I need to be sick during the time of me feeling completely spaced out. If it was diabetes wouldn't thins happen all the time? I'm not overweight and only my nan and uncle have diabetes in my family as I know of. Thankyou.

Guidance for fasting blood test is you don't eat anything for 8-12 hours before you blood test (can have sips of water). Fasting blood tests are usually done in the morning so would be best to book your appt for as early as possible. (Some places have allocated slots for those fasting). Hope that helps.

Thankyou. He just have a form and told me to book but didn't say anything about what times to book etc. The earliest one I could get in my area was the 7th at 4pm. Does later blood tests mean the result won't be as accurate? Sorry for sounding stupid I've never had a fasting test before. How long do the results take? Thanks again

Ask the receptionist at the GPs to check what the procedure is re fasting bloods. Some areas offer walk in appts at the hospital to have blood taken. Results usually take 3 days but best to check yourself if they are back (rather than wait for the GP to contact you)

Our surgery only has bloods collected at lunchtime so appointments usually earlier in the day.

I've rang back and managed to get a morning appointment now so I don't need to fast all day
