I have had a skin condition since March 2020 and first treated for scabies (wasnt scabies) and had phone consultations with my GP as it wasnt healing, over 2 years later I was referred to a dermatologist who diagnosed Nodula Prurigo.

I was sent for blood tests. The results came back on 17th June and I received the message - "The results of you blood test taken on 16th June have been reported as normal. No further action is necessary"

I relaxed, relieved that I didnt have anything nasty and said to my son yesterday I was able to get on with my life and live with this condition (the sores are still very much there)

This morning my phone rang 3 times while I was asleep, really early calls and went into my dream, I got up looked at my phone and saw lots of missed calls and 2 text messages from my surgery advising me that I need to see them this morning and also have another blood test.

Confused and a little scared I called up and was told by the receptionist that the dermatologist had written to them but she couldnt say any more on the phone.

I arrived, had my blood test and then waited an hour to see the GP who was lovely by the way, as she could see I was anxious. She said she was concerned by the results which showed 19.3mml glucose, abnormal liver, elevated white blood cells and a high inflammation marker!

She was apologetic but told me I had to go to have another blood test at the hospital as the nurse was just checking glucose and she may have to do a liver scan so needed a full blood count done. I asked to see the dermatologists letter as was so confused. He had written to say he had tried to refer me to another Dr as he was concerned but they said he was outside of the trust (NHS had referred me to a private dermatologist which may be why), also said he had contacted 111 and couldnt get hold of me (all I had from him was the message my results were normal)

Now I know I should focus more on the diagnosis (probably diabetic) but I am really upset about the false test results and the way this was handled or am I over reacting and just shocked by the news I wasnt expecting today.

Anyway, anyone with any knowledge of what 19.3 as a glucose level means, I would appreciate your advice as the Doctor wont advise me until she gets further tests to establish a full pattern.

I have gained a couple of stone in lockdown and as im working from home I am more sedentary and all weight has gone around my middle.

Feeling a little alone and would like any support or just someone to talk to on this. Thank you for reading.

BG is supposed to be between 4 and 7 so 19.1 is very far out of range and would very much suggest diabetes. It’s a bit rubbish that they didn’t get the results correct to start with but it’s good they called you back. I hope you have managed to get some answers now.
