Toddler Type 1 Symptoms?

Hi all

DC1 (nearly 4) has been ill for a few days - complaining of stomach pain and a temp. Drs asked for urine sample which showed raised ketones. They are testing another sample tonight.

He is asleep now but very sweaty. Like someone has poured a whole glass of water over him.
Is this or could this be a sign and worth mentioning to the GP tomorrow?

Felt quite calm earlier but DH is a worrier and it is catching!

Really appreciate any advice.

Thanks

Yes, everything is worth mentioning. I'm concerned the doctor isn't treating this more urgently if s/he suspects T1. What time is your appointment tomorrow?

SubParbanMum · 22/03/2022 22:05

That’s good to know. Thanks @Orgasmagorical
We’re just expecting a call back when they’ve done the dip test on the sample.
We’ve just had to swap his pillow out as it’s soaked nearly through.

Has he been thirsty and peeing more than usual lately?

SubParbanMum · 22/03/2022 22:23

So hard to answer. He’s always been a ‘good drinker’ so haven’t noticed him drinking more than usual.
I have in the last month or so thinking he can’t need another wee so soon.

These sound like such shit answers but I’m finding it hard to think about it critically.

This was the same for my DD when she was 2. Turned out to the a UTI.

itdoesntcount · 22/03/2022 22:23

You need a blood sugar test first thing OP, it's critical you start treatment asap if it is Type 1, i cannot emphasise that enough to you. I would be going to a&e tonight if you suspect Type 1.

SubParbanMum · 23/03/2022 00:05

Thank you. Just waiting for a call back from the out of hours team for a hospital appointment.

I hope all is well op and you get some answers, sincerely hoping its not T1 and an easily treated infection x

MissSmiley · 23/03/2022 07:39

@SubParbanMum did you hear back from them? How's your son?

Ilovewillow · 23/03/2022 07:52

He definitely needs seeing asap - my son was similar and the GP had us at the hospital within the hour and stressed just how urgent it was. I would go straight to A&E if you have no joy. Hopefully it nothing to worry about, my son wasn't in the end. Fingers crossed all goes well.
