Results from GTT

Hi all,
I have looked in the pregnancy boards, but not having much luck. I have just had the results back from my GTT and the level after 2 hours was 7.8. I have been told that the hospital will contact me. Any idea what I should expect in terms of care going forward? Will I need to measure my blood levels at home etc?

From what I can see, results need to be under 7.8 to class as “normal”. My reading of 7.8 seems to be causing them concern, but from what I can see online, doesn’t count as an actual diagnosis? Is this correct in other people’s experience?

Grateful for any advice. Thanks

These are diagnoses values. It's at the top end that's probably why they are worried.

NICE guidelines regarding gestations diabetes state….

Diagnose gestational diabetes if the woman has either:

a fasting plasma glucose level of 5.6 mmol/litre or above or
a 2‑hour plasma glucose level of 7.8 mmol/litre or above. [2015]

Thanks. So does that mean there is no longer any concept of “pre diabetic”? As a PP showed, and what I googled 7.7 would be “normal”. So 7.8 is diabetes? With nothing in between?

They’re probably just being extra cautious. You might be told you’ve got gestational diabetes and will be issued a kit to test several times a day. With any luck you should be able to diet control it

Gestational diabetes and “normal” diabetes are two entirely different things. Blood glucose control needs to be really optimal in pregnancy to reduce risk to mum and baby, hence the lower threshold for diagnosis of gestational diabetes.

Thanks everyone. Spoken to diabetes midwife.
My fasting level was very normal, and my level after the glucose drink was 0.1 over normal.
She said it’s very mild, but they prefer to be cautious. She’s confident a couple of dietary tweaks will be all that’s required.

Have collected my blood monitor from the hospital, and will need to test 4x a day for them to monitor remotely through an app. Baby due in 10 weeks, so not too long.

Thanks for everyone’s advice
