Fasting reading always high

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone can help me. I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes last week, since then all readings after food have been good, but all of my fasting readings have been high.

I can't figure out if I'm doing something wrong, or how to lower my fasting reading without going on medication?

My midwifes said I can't go over a 5.6, but my readings are always between 5.8 and 6.1.

Is anyone else having this issue and how was it solved?

Ultimately it may be you need Metaformin…

If you want to avoid it you may be able to with some trial and error.
I have been keeping mine down with fat and protein pre-bed.
Then when I wake in the light to use the bathroom I drink a full pint of water this has brought mine down from 5.5 5.7 to more 4.7 - 5.1
I am not sure this will sort me out for the duration of my pregnancy but it’s working for now
