Big Blood Test for Type 2, what to expect

I am going along for a blood test next week, it’s going to look at my levels over three months. There is a huge history of type 2 diabetes in my family.

Because this was over the phone I didn’t get to ask questions much though I’m sure Dr said I didn’t need to fast. I didn’t ask how long the results would take. Can anyone advise me on time taken for results. Thanks.

This is the HbA1c test. The nurse will just take one sample and that’s it. No need to fast before hand or anything. It looks at the average blood glucose levels for the past 12 weeks or so to get an overall look at your glucose control. When I’ve had it done the results take about 3-5 days. The result will be a number. Above 47 is diabetic, above42 is prediabetic and below is ok. Obviously the lower the better. These ranges may be slightly different in different areas soa let’s go with what your gp says.

Thank you for your very speedy reply Hardchoices I was just worried the results would take ages.
