Hi everyone, I need to get my head in the game and I'm looking for 'pals' to join me on here. I'm Type 2 but have been in denial since diagnosis in July last year. I seriously need to sort myself out and lose weight, mind what I eat and drink, get moving and get healthier. Anyone want to join me? Smile

Hi @chocpott
Welcome to the type2 club. It is a lot to get your head round when first diagnosed and took a long time to process. I was diagnosed in Jan 20 and looking back I am glad I was diagnosed as feel like a new person.
The changes that I needed to make had to be a lifestyle change that I could maintain long term and it takes a big mind shift to grasp that. I had to not give up when I fell off the wagon (which I have done many times!) and stop using food as an emotional crutch (hard after 49 years of doing so!)
I have embraced low carb eating and enjoyed eating butter again Grin and lost over 8stone in the process so yes we can do this! Baby steps.....

 Hi @TheStirrer Thanks. You have done/are doing EXACTLY what I need to do! Fab news that it's possible. It feels like I have the impossible to do at the mo, such a long way to go. Food is a 'prop' for me - I eat when happy, sad, celebrating, consoling etc etc. I'm 50 and I want to see 60 so this is it! Thank you for your lovely reply, very much appreciated.

@chocpott
I think take small realistic steps that you can make work for you - it’s a learning curve!
Are you on medication and how high was your Hb1ac?
This is what works for me... cheap glucose monitor and strips. Yes slightly expensive but invaluable as you can see how what you eat impacts you.
I going I couldn’t manage keto but do low carb. I use my fitness pal to monitor daily and try to stick to under 100g of carbs a day. I have basically given up potatoes, rice, and pasta and replace with loads of veg instead. Try to not snack and if you do limit to non carby things (nuts/ pork scratching / sugar free jelly and cream but obv not together 🤣).
Walk after each meal - even if it is just 10 mins marching on the spot and build up to more - my Fitbit has kept me motivated.
You shouldn’t be needing to reduce your calories to low levels. I don’t know how much you need to lose but I started off at 1750 and gave gradually reduced. Currently 13st 4 & aiming to get to 10st 4 and lose on 1500 when I stick to it!
Diabetes.co.uk is a useful website - NOT diabetes U.K. though!
