Metformin and Weight loss

I have read lots of articles and posts across the web all saying that Metformin can help people lose weight.

I am finding the complete opposite, my weight loss completely stalled when I started on Metformin and have been unable to lose anything whilst on it.

I was concerned as I feel losing weight is very important long term in treating this condition.
I made the decision to come off Metformin for a while and once again the weight has started dropping!

I am curious if anyone else has a similar experience

Are you taking the extended release tablets or normal Metformin? I am no doctor but I was prescribed normal Metformin (for pcos) and so did SIL and we both lost a lot of weight while on it but we also stopped consuming sugar including sugar free.
SIL' mum was prescribed extended release tablets and did not loose any weight on it. Years later she was switched to insulin as Metformin alone was not helping. After the switch she lost weight.

Sorry , posted too soon.
SIL' mum has diabetes and we don't so that could be another reason too that we had weight loss and she didn't.
