Gestational Diabetes after birtb

Hi, so I've recently been told I'm borderline Gestational Diabetic and I hope to control this through diet and exercise. I am just wondering what happens after you give birth? I.e. When do you go home, do you test yours and babies blood sugar at home, etc?

Thanks x

The hospital will test you both. Assuming that’s ok, you’ll be sent home and recommended to get an H1BAC test at about 6 weeks or so. Ask your dr though, because different doctors test at different times. I was told to treat it as if I had it when I got a borderline result and it was proven to be the correct decision a few weeks later when I saw what I could/couldn’t tolerate!

Diet controlled is an admirable goal, and if you can cope with it, you’ll be grateful for things like less weight gain and all the healthy eating.

But just remember that if you can’t cope with it, it’s not your fault. It’s nothing you did; it’s hormonal. Sometimes placentas are just dicks!! So don’t put too much pressure on yourself. GD is great for causing guilt.

There's a great Facebook group for GD that I found very helpful. I was kept in for a couple of days as they did a few tests for sugars on us both but absolutely no issues
