Bloods a bit crazy gestational diabetes

Got diagnosed late in the pregnancy, unfortunately babies abdomen is measuring off the scale and so for two weeks tried strict diet, no luck even though a lot of weight was lost and now on metformin. Even with the metformin my bloods can be a little haywire, I eat fairly consistently as there is not much leeway with food at the minute and yet one day a meal suits and the next it could send my sugars through the roof. I’m just wondering has anyone else found this and so difficult to control? I do all the things I’m told such as walk and drink plenty of water and eat within the parameters of the diet, less in fact, so it’s really disheartening. I will be delivering soon in the next few weeks due to other issues (blood pressure) and I also wanted to ask if anyone else was in this boat late in pregnancy, was the baby ok? I’m really worried she will have to go to the NICU when she is born from what I have heard!
