Rice cakes

I've recently been diagnosed with t2 and still quite confused regarding food etc.
Are rice cakes ok for a snack? Not sure as obviously rice is a carb but nurse said to keep an eye on sugars and overall calories.
Thanks in advance.

Unless you love rice cakes I’d avoid. They are relatively high in carbs and not nice enough to justify them!

Thanks for your quick reply!
I did think that might be the case, I'll avoid them from now on. Smile

I've got T2 diabetes as well. I am really careful with carbs and have tried very hard to cut out snacking. If I have anything, it's a few cashew nuts or almonds or a cube of cheese so protein opposed to carbs.

I do eat wholemeal pasta/brown rice/new potatoes but in very small servings and as part of a balanced meal. I initially cut all sugar out and kept eating far too much carbohydrates as I'm vegetarian and then wondered why my blood sugar levels weren't going down. There are lots of ideas on diabetes.co.uk and diabetes.org.uk.

Thanks Tomhardysnextwife, I've been trying to cut back on snacks but makes sense to snack on protein if I must have something.
