So after years of passing out and not feeling well and blood sugars being very low my diabetic mother suggested monitoring my blood sugar. I tested just before my lunch and had a reading of 17.1, is this normal?

If you feel well you do not need 999. I presume you have tested correctly? (Washed hands prior and used a fresh lancet device) have you had a mid morning snack at all?
Book in with the doctor as you may need to review your insulin doses or medication
