Induction

So I’ve been diagnosed with gestational diabetes and I’ve been told that I will 100% be induced as I’m now on medication and soon to be on insulin. I have a consultant appointment coming up in the next 10 days to discuss my induction I’m guessing. Midwife says they will probably induce at 38 weeks but can you ask the consultant to induce at just over 37 weeks? Reason I would rather this is because I’ve been in and out of hospital with reduced movements and I’d just feel happier. Does anyone know if you can ask them to do it earlier or not?

I asked and they said no. Most trusts don’t induce now until 39 weeks for GD.

I had GD with first DC who was induced at 39 weeks (and I did ask for it to be earlier). My diabetes remained after pregnancy so with DC2 I was induced at 38 weeks (again I did ask for an earlier induction).

Despite being bigger babies of diabetics from what I recall have lung maturity later so there would be a significant risk for a 37 week induction unless there were other medical issues - although check with your consultants as that could be wrong.

Oh really? My midwife is definitely under the impression I won’t go beyond 38 weeks because of the medication and insulin they won’t take the risk so hopefully that will help me be induced slightly earlier. It’s the constant worry that comes not only with reduced movements but with the GD so the sooner the better after the 37 week mark I think! Hopefully the consultant will be helpful, fingers crossed!!
