Diabetes after a GD pregnancy

I was told (not by a medic) that a third preganancy with gestational diabetes could give me permanent type 2 diabetes? Is this correct?

Anyone who has had gestational diabetes is at increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes in the future. My hospital told me it was 50/50 in terms of odds, but I don't know how accurate that is. I'm not sure if the odds increase the more GD pregnancies you have - it sounds plausible.

It's a worry as I'm considering a 3rd pregnancy

My mum had gestational diabetes in her third pregnancy and went on to develop type 2 diabetes.

Straight after preganancy?

I've developed it straight after having my DD five weeks ago. Had GD with my first pregnancy also but didn't go on to develop diabetes. Haven't been as lucky this time
