Poor you it sounds really difficult. Do you carb count? I'm sure everyone here would be happy to advise as best we can. You could even post a 'bad' days readings, meals and insulin amounts as we all miss things sometimes. If you haven't already got it the carbs and Cals book is really helpful for carb counting.

Everyone has bad days and your GP should know that stress does nothing but bad things to your levels!

paddyclampo · 18/05/2015 22:11

I'm having one of those bad weeks. Stupid disease Angry

SpottyTeacakes · 19/05/2015 05:32

Oh no paddy what's going on?

paddyclampo · 19/05/2015 22:59

Just a cold I can't shake off is playing havoc with my levels, as well as stopping me from doing much! I think it's on it's way out now though!

Just sometimes feel so tired of it all.

SpottyTeacakes · 20/05/2015 06:39

Me too it's such a drag. I work at a doctors surgery though and I see patient's blood results, some have hba1c's of 12 Shock

It's just so much more complicated than you can imagine with sick days, stress, exercise etc etc etc

SpottyTeacakes · 27/05/2015 20:05

My insulin pump is being connected tomorrow feeling a bit nervous. Have just given 50% of my usual basal rate so expecting to wake up high...

LinzerTorte · 28/05/2015 13:21

Ooh, good luck Spotty! Will it mean a hospital stay?

DD1 has a check-up at the hospital tomorrow, so is hoping to find out when she'll be able to have a pump.

SpottyTeacakes · 28/05/2015 17:50

No not at all. I had a three hour meeting two weeks ago and the same again today where it was connected. Same again next week and another meet two weeks later and that's it.

How's your dd getting on?

paddyclampo · 28/05/2015 22:35

That's great news Spotty :)

Still no joy here unfortunately

SpottyTeacakes · 28/05/2015 23:48

Hmm hypo already and no long acting snack required (that was my favourite bit!)

paddyclampo · 29/05/2015 15:45

What type of pump have u gone for?

SpottyTeacakes · 29/05/2015 15:49

I didn't get to choose, it's an accu-chek insight Smile

LinzerTorte · 29/05/2015 17:54

How are you getting on with it, Spotty? Sounds like quite a different process from here; DD1 will have to spend 1-2 weeks in hospital getting it set up etc. She had her second check-up today and has chosen the pump she wants (a Medtronic). We still have to wait for an appointment with a representative from the pump company, but have already chosen the date for her to go into hospital - 22nd June.

SpottyTeacakes · 29/05/2015 18:12

Goodness I couldn't cope with all that being in hospital! I'm getting on fine with it I think the basal is set too low but will wait a couple of days to be sure as I'm running at about 11 on fasting levels Shock can't speak to anyone until Monday anyway. I'm really happy with it but it is hard work. Have to remember to change the cannula every 3 days, the battery every two weeks, the tube and insulin no longer than six days. Having to test every two hours too!

paddyclampo · 29/05/2015 18:14

Praying for a lottery win so I can self fund!! But then again, if they tried to admit me into hospital I would still with the pens!

SpottyTeacakes · 29/05/2015 18:17

I can't see them doing that over here paddy! The pump I have was only released this year I think, they're already having issues with supplies of the cannulas etc.

Paddy why can't you have one is it because your diabetes is well controlled? I thought mine wasn't great but there's someone in my group who shrugs off a reading of 29Shock

paddyclampo · 29/05/2015 23:23

Yes it's because my a1c is consistently under 7% under the old system. The main reason for that is cos I run my levels quite low. Trouble is, if I tried to cite hypos as a reason to get the pump, they would probably take my license off me so a bit of a catch 22! They give them out to newly diagnosed people like sweets (no pun intended!) - as if it's somehow worse if you're newly diagnosed rather than being like us who did our time as diabetic kids back when things really were grim!! Angry

SpottyTeacakes · 30/05/2015 06:03

I don't know if they would take your licence from you would they? I felt like you before and I know they had lots of meetings about me before allowing me to have it. I have the added bonus(?!) of a neurological condition and support of my neurologist. I really feel your pain Sad

SpottyTeacakes · 30/05/2015 06:23

My bolus is definitely too low I woke up at 16 Sad I can't do anything about it because it's the weekend. My correction dose is set too low too. It makes me really anxious knowing I'm running high and there's nothing I can do about it.

paddyclampo · 30/05/2015 16:51

That doesn't sound good! Won't they let you change it?

SpottyTeacakes · 30/05/2015 17:00

It's the weekend so no one to ask! It was 13-11 all morning but now it's been 4/5 so maybe it's settling down? There's definitely someone in my pump group who runs very low.

paddyclampo · 31/05/2015 22:37

How's it been today, Spotty ?

SpottyTeacakes · 01/06/2015 05:47

Up and down. I had an 18 after changing the cannula so I was worried it wasn't working but maybe it was all the biscuits I ate? Confused I have read it can take months for it to really settle down and to get the hang of it. Ds got upset when I changed the cannula as he thought it hurt me!

SpottyTeacakes · 17/06/2015 09:24

I'm struggling today. When I woke up I was 6.3 then 6.8 then 6.8. Gave 3.35u/31g of carbs (pump worked it out) 45 mins later I'm 2.7. Why?? My insulin to carb ratio has always been 1/10 Angry

hoxty · 17/06/2015 19:30

Oh that sounds a bit miserable spotty. Is it hot where you are? I always find (and forget that) I metabolise insulin a lot more efficiently in the heat and have to adjust my dose accordingly. Or eat more....

Saw my fab consultant today. He's looked after me for about 13 years and knows me really well. All good, my HbA1C is 5.5 Grin. He says I have to loosen the control a bit!
