Hi there everyone.
A few weeks ago my mum was diagnosed as having alzheimers with dementia mixed in. We noticed for a while that she has been forgetting what she is being told. Had her ears tested in case it was that. Needed hearing aids but didn't improve anything. It's her short term memory at the minute that's being affected. She can forget something within 20 minutes of being told. The doctor has told her but she gets very annoyed and always repeats I'm old I'm on my own. You get her to understand what the problem is and she excepts it but talk to her later the same day and she has forgotten. How do you deal with the memory loss when talking to them or. She is now on medication to slow the process down but memory won't improve. Sorry for long post x

There's a theory that it's a good idea not to argue and not say I told you that. already. Just answer the question again, patiently.
Write important stuff down.
Make sure there's some support built in rather than expect her to do everything independently.
Check she is eating and drinking.
Check fridge for out of date food.
Have spare keys
Put Power of Attorney in place.
She'll be vulnerable in terms of money - buying stuff she doesn't need, phone scams etc.
Long list really and it depends how she is now, how nearby you live. Are other people involved who will visit and support.
