Had a PET scan over a month ago and they have yet to ring me about it and discuss the results. Is this normal? I thought I would have heard something by now.

Phone, or email, them and ask. I use email if possible as I then get a reply that I can keep. I did this a few times when test results took too long.

Yes I have emailed, they told me to do this if not heard by the end of Sep, then nothing...

GP told us in another context that there is a nationwide shortage of neurologists - there's no excuse for such a delay, imo, but that may have something to do with it.

Right, so they did say they needed to discuss it at their neuroradiology meeting, this could be the case perhaps. It also says on their website about year long waits for an initial appt atm, they must be snowed under :-(

We were told last week there would be a 10-month wait for a neurology appointment. We made the decision to go private.

Hope you get some results soon OP.

Thanks! I do have a kind of insurance which paid for the PET scan but unfortunately won't cover the memory clinic- it would neurology but that seems separate, and I think I am at my limit now as have used it for the PET and CT scans.

I have asked radiology for a copy of the scan results and they look Ok however there is a mention of sulcal changes, and mild atrophy in the CT. Have checked online and seems linked to cognitive changes- I'm only 47, so a bit concerned.

I'll just have to wait.

Hoping for something benign, minor and/or easily treatable, OP. Let us know. And I'm hardly one to say this, but if possible, the less you google, the better.

Thanks. I have had the initial appt with all the cognitive testing and my score was 80, ace 111? Which they said was reassuring, but I am not so sure. Something about verbal fluency a bit low.

I will just have to wait and see.

I contacted them today and the delay is because they are going to discuss my scan at the end of the month at their meeting. So a bit longer to wait, but I do know what is happening which I suppose is something.

It's all a bit worrying especially when they said 'out of proportion for my age"

At least you have a timeline, OP. Sounds like they're being very careful, which is good. Hoping for something benign and/or manageable.

Orangesandlemons77 · 16/10/2024 18:04

Thanks, yes they are I suppose!
