Hi all - mum has moderate dementia / alzheimer's and we're all trying to make the best of it. She's increasingly becoming stressed and worried about fictitious things - I wondered what mechanisms anyone employs to deal with it? N.B., we've passed the stage of diverting tactics, calmly reassuring etc etc - I'm asking more about strategies to deal with it / reassure mum, when we're back to square one after reassuring her x10! e.g spending 10 minutes reassuring her, then having to the same thing again 5 minutes later, then rinse & repeat again & again...

This is a tough one. Have you spoken to the Admiral Nurse Service? Or the Dementia Support line?
There may be a medication that could help her stay calm, but I don't know if you want to go down that route.
Sending compassion.

Anxiety can elevate as the disease spreads. Maybe speak to her GP about some citalopram or similar anti anxiety medication?

Thanks everyone - I'll look into these suggestions. Thanks.

How are you getting on now @Justasking100?

Our DMIL suddenly became very anxious and thought that people were in the house trying to hurt her

We thought that she had Delirium. Do you think your DM might have developed this too?

Hi - we've got some anxiety medication from the docs (forgotten the brand name) it also helps her get a good nights sleep - plus we have the local dementia team visiting soon - so making progress - slowly!!
Thanks all again for your comments.
