So my aunt who is 84 has dementia and after a nasty fall has been placed into a residential home. We have had the confirmation from the council and they've done the assessment in regards to how much she has to contribute to the fees. However all her money is in her bank account and my dad was never able to get POA for her as she always insisted she "wasn't poorly" he has her account books but no way to access the money for her. Any advice on what we can do ?

He will need to apply to the Office of the Public Guardian to become her Deputy. If you look on the GOV.UK website it has lots of information. I would also maybe suggest speaking to Dementia Uk or the Alzheimer's Society of some advice.
