Hi. Just looking for some advice.

My parent was diagnosed with Alzhiemer's a few years ago. I can't seem to get on with her GP. Years ago this GP wasted my time several times when I was her patient. She has done this regarding something she prescribed for my parent.

I will need to see this GP soon when she reviews my parent. I am not convinced she has had the time look into things properly as decisions have to be made.

I would like to change my parent's GP. There is another one at the surgery who seems good but I don't know if she will have time to take my parent on.

It's difficult to know what to do in case we end up with a GP who is even worse. Any suggestions? Thanks

Does your GP surgery insist you see your named GP? At our surgery we just make an appointment to see whichever doc you want or you can ask to see one who has more experience in the area you are concerned about - elderly people/mental health etc.

It seems that each patient is allocated a GP unless they need an urgent appointment.

I discussed my concerns with the practice manager. She was supposed to follow it up with the GP but didn't. I asked if my parent's care could be transferred to another GP and she said it would be up to the GPs to sort out. I argued that she should look into this but she seems to not want to follow anything up.

The whole surgery is a shambles although a couple of GPs have been good.

Wow - I would definitely be looking to move surgeries.

It's going to be difficult to get my parent to register at a different surgery. I don't think you can register at surgeries that aren't local to you anyway in my area.
