Toilet roll excessive use

Mum has dementia, uses shes loads of toilet roll at night. In the day, it's fine. But the upstairs loo is blocking all the time.

With everything else we cope with it sounds trivial but I don't understand it, and im sick of unblocking the loo. I was wondering if anyone else had any ideas? Thank you.

My mum has got my dad to use a bin by the loo. But they did live abroad for a while where this wasn't that odd so he accepts it.

Maybe just buy cheap loo roll for upstairs with the lowest ply?

That's an idea. Thank you. I have bought the thinnest ply, upstairs we use about 2 rolls every 3 days. Bizzare.

Maybe if I unblock it in front of her a few times she'll rationalise using a bin, if she can retain it for long enough, and I can unblock it in front of her often enough. I've taken the spare rolls out too, so she doesn't think there's loads there. It's very curious. Thank you.

Could thee be a reason for the nocturnal over-consumption? Is she using the paper as a ‘pad’ because she is incontinent or frightened of not getting to the lavatory quickly enough to stop wetting herself? Maybe a proper inco pad would give her the confidence hat she won’t wet the bed or herself would stop the loo blocking behaviour? She might be too embarrassed to talk about it, so worth a gentle enquiry?
