How to broach it

I have had the feeling my lovely mother has not been quite right for sometime. She just seemed to be slightly disconnected in social situations.

Today I heard her asking DD if she remembered a family event - the family event was actually one I attended as a child when I was around the same age as DD. She seemed to realise her mistake as soon as I pointed it out, she wasn't confused. But ever since I've been really worrying about the significance of this. Any suggestions as to how I can broach it?

Do you need to broach it? Can't you and family members just monitor the situation? Doesn't sound too advanced if she does have dementia. Unless she is young enough for some medical intervention?
