Basically ours is a heap is Shit!! Batteries run out after 15 pics! Yes thats all.

Recommendations please. Not too much cash, obviously want good quality and a battery that doesn't wear out as soon as you've turned the thing on.

WE have a Canon Ixus and I really like it.

You'll really need to give a price limit, tbh. I have a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ4 which is great, but is about £150.

budget?

PadDad · 14/04/2009 09:24

I just bought the magazine WhatCamera? and took the three editor's picks within my price range, and compared just them.

Made the decision a lot easier.

budget about £100-150 - unless it comes with a gardener, cleaner, nanny etc. In that case may stretch to £180 .

I recently bought a samsung L201, from Tesco, it was originally £129, but was reduced to £79, I'm happy with it, it has a rechargeable battery, I hate one where the battery keeps running out.

Canon Ixus one's are pretty good (if like me you're a bit of a photographic numpty and just want a 'point and shoot'). Mine's an Ixus 60 but I think that might be discontinued.

JeMeSouviens · 15/04/2009 16:29

We have just bought the Panasonic Lumix TZ5 -it really is fab. Have a 4gb memory card which can hold 800 photos, took about 400 photos before needing charging. Has HD video and anti-shake and face recognition which really works. It's a bit bigger than the compacts, but I think you need the bigger size to get the better quality.

Previously we had the Casio Xilim (sp?) (had several models) - the last one was RUBBISH.

Canon.

The Powershot A1100 is probably what I'd end up with in your price bracket. Would also seriously look at the Ixus 85 depending on what sort of features you want.

RubberDuck · 15/04/2009 16:56

(usual disclaimer of you should go into your local camera shop - Jessops are good, not a shop that happens to sell cameras as well as other stuff - and HOLD the camera, see if the menus make sense etc etc - they'll often price match too if you take in a magazine with an advertised price NOT a web printout, so buy WhatCamera and check out the warehouse express listings and be prepared to haggle)
