Well, I only know about cricket (and I'm not a man lol!)

In Jan 2010 England will be playing in South Africa. Which is great if you can afford it, but otherwise you would just have to watch at home on the tv!

We did go to SA to see the cricket in Jan 2000 (pre ds, when we were both working and had time and money, couldn't do it now!)It was fab. But if you were thinking cricket and wanted something in England you would have to wait until the summer.

nancy75 · 27/03/2009 22:51

the ashes is in england this summer, it would be early but would be a good pressie?

snice · 27/03/2009 22:52

Any interest in golf? You could send them to The Open

snice · 27/03/2009 22:53

Sorry-hadn't seen it was to be next Jan

FAQinglovely · 27/03/2009 22:53

give me 15 minutes and I'll find out what's happening in your chosen sports

SoMuchToBits · 27/03/2009 22:55

If you want to do it early, then Ashes this summer might be good, if you can still get tickets (except England are playing crap even against W Indies right now, so obv have no chance against Australia!!!)

FAQinglovely · 27/03/2009 23:00

well nothing "world" type happening, world cup (football) isn't until June/July next year, Rugby - well that's 2011, cricket has already been mentioned

Racing - would you consider a proper "lads" day out at the races?? (I wouldn't personally - well I might for the booze -not for the geegees )

BigGitDad · 27/03/2009 23:01

Depnds on hoe much money you have? A box at a football premiership game? A top rugby game. look a Bath RFC web site, it is not too expensive for a box which includes a meal, box and seats for a game.

snice · 27/03/2009 23:03

Horse racing: King George at Christmas time or Cheltenham Festival March

If it has to be after his birthday in Jan 2010:

It is looking likely at this stage that England will qualify for the World Cup, so there will be friendly games at Wembley and abroad against big teams for practice in the months leading up to the summer.

Tortington · 28/03/2009 00:21

thank you so much - i was thinking maybe anytime during 2010 - as long as i could give him the tickets in (end of) Jan.

so whats going on spring/summer 2010?

not goldf or racing either - sorry - but thanks for replying.

FAQinglovely · 28/03/2009 00:24

Long weekend to the Tour de France Summer 2010.
The most crazy, awesome, nuts sporting event on the planet - and you get to see the stars real close up - inches away (and drink heaps of wine, eat yummy French food!)
Clearly at least a passing interest in the event would be helpful though....
Cheap flights, accommodation if planned in advance and there are no tickets!

if it's january thent he 6 nations will be just around the corner in febuary and england will have ireland and wales at home next year.both of which would be great matches to go to.

PadDad · 29/03/2009 22:59

mayorquimby is talking about rugby, BTW

(sorry if that sounds patronising -- meant to be helpful only)

Tortington · 30/03/2009 03:10

lol, i knew that much!

its world cup next year no?

how do i find out about tickets for that?

and the rugby is a bloody great idea = thanks

OP posts:
mayorquimby · 30/03/2009 14:14

football world cup next july in south africa. if you want them at face value i'd get onto the fa website early and look into ticket info as they will be gone very quickly so you might have to apply to get on a waiting list or raffle style system.
otherwise most reputable tour operators will vbe selling packages which should include tickets.

Tortington · 30/03/2009 17:49

thank you!

DadInsteadofMum · 31/03/2009 14:00

For the 6 nations (Rugby) it is very difficult to get tickets for Twickenham, but much easier for say Murrayfield. How about a weekend in Edinburgh with tickets to the Calcutta cup match?

Kevlarhead · 02/04/2009 19:02

"I'll ask the dads, 'cos women know sh*t all about sport!"

I find that a rather sexist assumption; I'm a man and i'm bloody clueless about anything sport related...

PadDad · 03/04/2009 08:13

Yeah, but statistically . . . ?
