Is it just me or do women who wear too much make-up look like men in drag?

I think so.

Discuss.

they look like desperate men in drag

HecateQueenOfGhosts · 23/02/2009 21:21

yes. If it's slapped on with a trowel it looks bloody awful. - or if the eyes are heavy and so are the lips - one or the other people! one or the other!

I think the better discussion would be WHY women feel they must paint their faces at all in order to be attractive?

Idrankthechristmasspirits · 23/02/2009 21:25

Agree with op. Especially wrinkly women. It gathers in the creases

In answer to Hecate, i think it is media images a lot of the time. We are not perfect if compared to a magazine picture so we paint our faces to try and get rid of the "imperfections".

It took me until i was 30 to be able to sit in front of my partner bare faced. That makes me feel like a bit of a nob.

BarcodeZebra · 23/02/2009 21:26

Couldn't agree more Hecate. But I was feeling all flippant.

it depends on how pretty they are ...

I think Dita Von Teese (sp) wears a lot of make-up but it looks good on her. She is also lucky to be quite good looking without it. A pig ugly woman will look worse with make-up IMO a good looking one not so bad.

beanieb · 23/02/2009 21:27

oh - and it also depends a lot on how good they are at putting it on.

BarcodeZebra · 23/02/2009 21:30

ah but Dita used to be married to a man in drag. sort of cancels it out.

I love the smoky-eyes look which requires a lot of make-up, skilfully applied.

heavy eyes call for nude lips and vice versa, those are the rules I believe

but yes, I agree

not a good look

BarcodeZebra · 23/02/2009 21:33

It's to all-over-putty effect to which I particularly refer. In tango orange.

they obviously have crap lighting and mirrors

GreatDadinTraining · 24/02/2009 13:29

Probably going off-topic here, but what do we feel about coloured contact lenses?
I just think its, well, dishonest to show off blue eyes, when your eyes are slatey grey (and perhaps very nice too).
Is that unreasonable?

GDIT, YABU

GreatDadinTraining · 24/02/2009 17:42

You're wrong GDIT. There's nothing like the disconcerting sensation of catching a glimpse of someone with lilac eyes.

Mate of mine in a very posh Roman restaurant in 1960s pushed his chair out to stand and leave the table - had banged into a fellow diner who was passing. He spins round to apologise to his victim. It's Elizabeth Taylor. He confirms she owned the most beautiful violet eyes. His jaw flaps around. She smiles and moves on.

HMC · 25/02/2009 23:42

I don't know that I agree that they look like men in drag - just kind of vaguely pitiful and lacking in confidence....that's the impression they give me any way

GreatDadinTraining · 26/02/2009 18:00

Liz Taylor was well known for her violet contacts you know...
(ok, I give up, AIBU!)

GreatDadinTraining · 26/02/2009 18:01

sorry, IABU !

weaselboy · 26/02/2009 18:01

I work with teenage girls.
Some of them are unutterably beautiful. some aren't.
Their make up is generally good apart from:
1 SPiders legs eyelashes

  1. THICK jodie marsh style foundation, orange and cheap
