we bought a panasonic hard disc dvd player/recorder in 2004 and it's died.

no death throes, just death.

it won't switch on.

it was great for recording tv and just click a thumbnail and play it off the hard disc drive...no looking around for vhs tapes everywhere.

anyway, we've had our money's worth i suppose, but i don't just want to throw it.

it starts up like a computer, and it feels like it just needs re-booting or something.

the manual says you can press a sequence of buttons to alt control delete type thing it, but nothing happens when you do.

who do i take it to? a computer repair person? a tv repair person?

you can bet comet would charge an arm and a leg for something which i'm sure is quite simple to fix.....so how to get this thing working again?

any advice welcomed.

Not wishing to be funny - have you checked the fuse in the plug - if you had a power surge could have blow the fuse (and unfortunately also the board)

sorry, mustn't have made myself clear...it's got power it just doesn't boot up.

it does actually switch on on.

it just doesn't switch on so anything's do-able with it.

It's most likely to be the hard disk that's died, that'll be the only mechanical part. Would you be confident swapping it out to see what happens? If not I'd take it along to a Mom and Pop style computer shop and they'll have a look and fix it if they can.

hey thanks v v much for this...

might have a look inside and a jiggle about...or take it somewhere cheap looking

looks like about 250 quid for a new equivalent...might just have to fork out...spending a lot of cash recently...hope the house sells quick!
