have a ford focus 1.8tdci and when the revs go above 2000rpm (ie when turbo should kick in) there is a sound like a huge rush of air which i presume is a cracked pipe or something. anyone know whether this is likely to cost me a fortune

Hi,

I had this happen on my Freelander last week.

£5 for pipe, £15 labour and about half an hour reading a mag in the garage

What year is the focus? Is it a woosh, lack of power and black smoke?

DH is asking the Q's he is a ford mechanic.

dp reckons cracked pipe £20, intercooler £200 (Ford technician btw!)

DH said probably a cracked pipe to the intercooler and that it wouldn't be too expensive.

thanks for the replies, it is booked in at the garage at 9.30am tommorrow.

it is a whoosh sound but no black smoke.

am keeping fingers crossed it is the £20 pipe rather than the £200 intercooler.......
